Yr7+ Running (for 11-18yr olds) – Wednesdays 6.15-7.15pm meet at Rugby Club – running based training.

Summer Athletics (for 7-18yr olds) – Thursdays 6.30-7.30pm at the Rugby Club – ‘run, throw, jump’ training on the grass track and field.

U21 Running – (for 14-20yr olds) Fridays 6.30-7.30pm – a mix of trail and road running, social pacing so suitable for all abilities.

Saturday Athletics and Games (for 7-18yr olds) – These sessions vary, they will include sessions at the Rugby Club or sessions at Blackbridge/Yate Athletics track. The DRC Juniors coaches will also support local competition events such as those at the Prince of Wales stadium – check out the calendar for more details.

DRC Junior Section Vision –

To encourage young athletes to participate and enjoy a wide range of running and athletics activities, providing opportunities for athletic development and competition, embedding a healthy appetite for sport and exercise which will continue into adulthood.

We provide a number of opportunities for Junior Members to take part in running and athletics activities.

DRC Junior members are aged between 7 (school year 3) and 18. All training sessions are delivered by DBS checked, UK Athletics qualified coaches and coaching assistants.

Junior Programme Structure

Normal junior sessions are on Saturdays 09.30-10.30; in the summer we are at the Dursley Rugby Club (Stinchcombe) on the grass running track for most weeks and then occasionally we use the Blackbridge Jubilee or Yate Outdoor Sports Centre athletics tracks. In the winter we focus more on cross country running and include some orienteering activities to keep it fun (e.g. Easter Egg Hunt). These sessions are open to all our junior members but tend to be more games focussed and attended by the under 11s mostly.

On Wednesday evenings 6.15-7.15 we run a running focussed session in the winter and preparation for competition athletics training in the summer. These sessions are for yr7+ juniors only.

On top of these regular sessions we also run (usually Thursdays or Fridays 6.30-7.30pm – dependent upon facilities available);
Indoor Athletics (Jan-Mar)
Summer Athletics (May-Jul)

Kickstart Athletics (Sep-Oct)

We also run other events to keep the juniors interested; Spring Mini Athletics Championship, Summer Athletics Championship (& BBQ), Orienteering in association with BOK and in 2018 we ran a ‘Try out Tri’  Juniors triathlon event.

Membership is £20 for the year. Optionally you may affiliate your Junior to England Athletics, this will be an additional cost – charged at the current EA affiliation cost, but unless you are entering regional events it is unlikely you will need this.
