Congratulations once again to our inaugural DRC Grand Prix winners; Tony Woodridge and Alice Lewis.
Dave Durden completed The Forest of Dean Half (just about by the sounds of it) completing the necessary 8 races to secure his 2nd place! This means Jonathan Tudor had to settle for a well-earned 3rd place having raced in 11 of the possible 15 races in the 2017 series.
In an exciting finish in the women’s league, an excellent performance by Margaret Johnson with not only a half marathon PB but she also secured the maximum 15 Grand Prix points. With Alice Lewis also racing well it meant that Eileen Hieron had to settle for 3rd place and 10 points, crucially denying her the 2 points required to stay ahead of Mags. So in the end Mags gets 2nd place with Eileen in 3rd.
Finally a special mention to Shona Darley and Julie Froggatt who were the only other 2 club members who would have qualified for the prizes finishing 4th and 5th respectively. Well done!
Thanks to everyone who entered the 2017 event and we hope it has had a positive effect in some way to your running.
So, on to 2018 starting at the Stroud Half Marathon. As well as a new selection of races there are a few minor tweaks to the rules to look out for too.

Thursday 28th Sep the Kickstart Athletics group will be running around the Stinchcombe Golf Course. This off-road run will build on the endurance running training.
We will be meeting in the walkers Car Park in the middle of the golf course at 6pm.
Sadly we have now seen the last of the daylight for this year’s club running nights. So please could all runners now wear hi-visibility clothing (fluorescent and reflective where possible) and take head torches for evening runs, it is important to us that we keep all our runners safe and this is a practical measure that we can all support to help keep us safe on and alongside the roads of the local area. We have some reflective items that we can provide if needed and plenty of advice regarding what else works well e.g. good value head torches, so please contact us if we can help.

September’s challenge – the Flying Mile is on until the end of September.
The trees are proving a bit of a challenge for satellite accuracy, so once you complete the segment I suggest you carefully cross the junction and go another 100m just to make sure it records you as having completed.

Club Annual General Meeting (AGM) to include club awards, highlights from the year, committee member election and accounts. The bar will be open. Please attend and support your running club.
On the 9th July the DRC Junior Section held a Track and Field Championship event. Entrants ranged from 7 years old to… well let’s just say adults. It was a beautiful day and participants took part in a variety of running, throwing and jumping events. A BBQ kept athletes and spectators alike well fed. There were many great performances and the award ceremony at the end of the day saw all juniors win at least one medal.
Congratulations to club member Fred Yearsley who has just won Gold in the European Triathlon Union Long Course championship for his age group – in an amazing time of 11h 51m – over an hour faster than the second placed competitor. Well done Fred!
